The film centers on a divorced, single mother and masseuse Eva (Louis-Dreyfus) who starts up a romance with Albert (Gandolfini). Things get complicated when Eva realizes Albert is the ex of her new client (played by Holofcener muse Catherine Keener), who plies Eva with all the nitpicky and more substantial problems she and Albert had during their marriage. Look out for this spot-on quote: Getting an ex-wife to spill the beans on one’s new boyfriend is “like a human Trip Advisor.”
Holofcener’s last film was the nuanced portrait of upper-class guilt, “Please Give,” in 2010. She has a way of capturing the complex and often humorous details of relationships and self-esteem like few other directors working today. And, as evidenced by “Enough Said,” she has a keen eye for casting. (Toni Collette and Ben Falcone have supporting roles in the film.) Count us excited for this one.
