'Two Lives,' Starring Liv Ullmann, Selected as Germany's Foreign-Language Oscar Submission (TRAILER)

Georg Mattas’ “Two Lives” has been selected as Germany’s official Foreign-Language submission for the 86th Academy Awards. The film stars Juliane Kohler and Liv Ullmann as a daughter and mother confronting their dark pasts when the Berlin Wall goes down.

Our TOH! review of the film is here. It has played the Palm Springs International Film Festival, Goteborg, Seattle and Shanghai, among other fests.

Here’s the official synopsis:

TWO LIVES is based on the true story of the German Kathrine
Evensen (played by Juliane Köhler), who, leads a happy life with her family and
mother (played by Liv Ullmann) in Norway. But with the fall of the Wall she is
suddenly confronted with her secret Stasi past. Her false identity, which has
in the meantime become her desired life, threatens her entire existence. To
prevent the truth from being revealed, she has to return to her previous role.
But who is she really?

The Academy will announce the five nominated Foreign-Language films on January 16, 2014.
