Watch: 70-Minute Animation Masterclass With Tim Burton

Way back in 2010, just a few months removed from the wild success of his post-converted 3D take on “Alice In Wonderland,” Tim Burton visited the Bell Lightbox in Toronto as part of TIFF’s Higher Learning series to give a master class to animation students. Now, thanks to Filmmaker IQ, you can sit in on the idiosyncratic director as talks about animation.

Running just over an hour long, the video finds Burton giving feedback on the animated work by Canadian students, answering questions from the crowd, and talking about stop-motion animation. If you’re needing your Burton fix, this video’s sure to hit your sweet spot. And as always, this sort of generous amount of time with any filmmaker is usually fascinating and insightful.

In the meantime, let’s all hope for the best for Burton’s next directorial effort “Big Eyes” because the director really needs to get out of his Disney slump and the true-story seems to be the right antidote. Watch the master class below.
