Director Timur Bekmambetov (“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”) has released a pre-production trailer online for a new horror comedy project he’s working on: “Squirrels.” Yes, it’s like “The Birds,” with the humor of the “Piranha” franchise, but featuring terrifying, bushy-tailed tree-climbing rodents. Watch below.
A director isn’t lined up yet, but Bekmambetov will produce. Daniel Antoniazzi and Ben Shiffrin are penning the script. Per Variety, the film will center on a town under attack by carnivorous squirrels following a local natural gas company’s destruction of the food chain.
And here’s the tagline: “Hold On To Your Nuts.”
The gist of this early trailer is of course also indebted to “Jaws,” where a young child falls prey to the viciousness of an eating machine.
