Watch: Stephen Colbert Calls Kevin Spacey 'The Jackie Robinson of The Internet' for His 'House of Cards' Emmy Nominations

Kevin Spacey appeared on “The Colbert Report” last night to talk “House of Cards,” which is up for nine Emmys, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his performance as the amoral Representative Frank Underwood. Between some playful ribbing — Colbert teased Spacey about looking like “an extra in ‘To Kill a Mockingbird'” in his cream-colored suit — the two talked about the Netflix original’s status as the first digital series to be a contender in the major categories, with Colbert referring to Spacey as “the Jackie Robinson of the internet.” “Why should you get an award for TV when you’re not on TV? Defend yourself!” Colbert demanded, with Spacey responding by talking about how Netflix’s release of the entire “House of Cards” season at once is indicative of “where things have been going in the last eight years.” Take a look:
