'12 Years a Slave' and 'August: Osage County' Bookend 2013 San Diego Film Festival

The San Diego Film Festival has announced the complete lineup of films chosen for this year’s fest scheduled for Oct. 2-6. Over 100 screenings will run throughout the five day festival, including a number of world premieres.

The festival will open with Steve McQueen’s “12 Years a Slave” with screenwriter John Ridley and producers Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner in attendance. The closing night film will be John Well’s “August: Osage County,” based on the Pulitzer Prize winning play.

This year, filmmaker Judd Apatow will receive the Visionary Filmmaker Award and  Mariel Hemingway will be honored with the
festival’s Humanitarian Award to accompany the west coast premiere of “Running from Crazy,” a documentary examining the actress’s personal mental health journey.
