Sony Pictures Classics has announced that the release of Bennett Miller’s “Foxcatcher” will be pushed back to 2014. In a statement, Sony Pictures Classics “supports the decision of the filmmakers to allow for more time to finish the film.”
Based on a true murder story, the film recounts what happened when Olympic Wrestling Champion brothers Mark Schultz (Channing Tatum) and Dave Schultz (Mark Ruffalo) went to train at the home of eccentric John du Pont (Steve Carell), heir to the du Pont Chemical fortune.
Another film that has fallen out of the 2013 awards derby is Nicole Kidman vehicle “Grace of Monaco,” which the Weinstein Company also pushed to 2014. And rumors are swirling that true to form, Martin Scorsese is battling to trim excessive length from his holiday would-be Oscar contender for Paramount, “The Wolf of Wall Street.” Paramount postponed another high-profile DiCaprio film, “Shutter Island,” which yielded boffo first quarter 2010 box office results.
