Thomas Sadoski (HBO’s “The Newsroom”) confirmed at the HBO party Sunday night that he will star opposite Reese Witherspoon in the film adaptation of non-fiction bestseller “Wild,” which will be directed by Jean-Marc Vallee (who currently has “Dallas Buyers Club” generating Oscar buzz). The theater actor is excited by his breakout role opposite love-interest Olivia Munn in “Newsroom,” which he is confident will return for another season, especially after Jeff Daniels’ surprise Emmy win. “Newsroom” creator Aaron Sorkin, though, says he is still thinking about it.
Sadowski is also charged up about working with Witherspoon, one of our great underutilized actresses. “Wild” is based on Cheryl Strayed’s memoir of the same title, and centers on a woman (Witherspoon) who embarks on a thousand-mile hike along the Pacific Coast trail as a means of coping with inner demons. The adaptation was penned by Nick Hornby.
Sadoski will play the male lead, the ex-husband who still harbors feelings for the lead female character despite knowing of her infidelities. “Wild” will be Sadoski’s highest-profile role to date. He also stars in indie flick “Take Care,” from writer-director Liz Tuccillo.
