IFC Films Takes 'Hateship Loveship,' Starring Wiig, Pearce, Steinfeld and More

IFC Films has scooped up TIFF special presentation title “Hateship Loveship,” starring Kristen Wiig, Guy Pearce, Hailee Steinfeld, Nick Nolte, Christine Lahti and Jennifer Jason Leigh

Directed by Liza Johnson (“Return”), the film is adapted by Mark Poirier (“Goats”) from a short story by Canadian author Alice Munro. Here’s the official synopsis:

HATESHIP LOVESHIP is a multi-dimensional portrait of a young
woman who has a life-altering effect on a fractured family. Kristen Wiig stars
as Johanna Parry, a profoundly shy, unadorned woman who is hired by Mr.
McCauley (Nick Nolte) as a housekeeper and a primary caregiver to his
granddaughter Sabitha (Hailee Steinfeld). When Sabitha uses technology to
foster a pseudo-relationship between her widowed father and new caretaker,
Johanna is finally able to indulge in something long missing from her life: the
dream of a future and a home of her own.

No word yet on a stateside release.
