TIFF: IFC Films Acquires Liza Johnson's Hateship Loveship

Out of Toronto, IFC Films is acquiring the U.S. rights for Liza Johnson’s Hateship Loveship starring Kristen Wiig

Based on a short story by Alice Munro and adapted by Mark Poirier, Johnson’s film, follows Johanna (Wiig) a shy, reserved woman who is hired by Mr. McCauley (Nick Nolte) to care for his granddaughter Sabitha (Hailee Steinfeld). Sabitha (but most of the blame should go to her best friend) orchestrates a relationship between her down of his luck widowed father and Johanna, which inadavertently allows Johanna to see a potential future and family for herself.

The film premiered as part of the Special Presentations program at TIFF where we had the chance to speak with Liza Johnson about her film.
