Watch: 'Box,' A Projection-Mapping Project with Industrial Robots

Check out this mesmerizing demonstration of projection-mapping on moving surfaces. It’s called “Box” and it’s the latest project from Bot & Dolly, the San Francisco-based design and engineering studio that specializes in automation, robotics, and filmmaking. They’re known for their work with 3D objects and experimental videos involving art and live performances. The company uses an integrated software/hardware
platform that allows them to control 6-axis
industrial robots. The short film features a live performance captured entirely in camera, but eventually, it is revealed that a robotic mechanism is behind every illusion.

On their Vimeo page, Bot & Dolly say that “Box explores the synthesis of real and digital space through projection-mapping onto moving surfaces.” The film gives you an idea of the creative possibilities of project-mapping — and did we mention there are robots?!
