WATCH: First Clip from Stephen Frears' Oscar Hopeful 'Philomena,' with Judi Dench and Steve Coogan

The first clip from Brit director Stephen Frears’ dramedy “Philomena,” which debuted at Venice to raves and will play TIFF this month, has arrived. The film stars Judi Dench as an Irish woman looking for the son she gave up for adoption years before, and Steve Coogan as a political journalist enlisted in her search.

The Weinstein Company has slated this Oscar hopeful for a December 25 stateside release. Frears’ “The Queen” (2006) was nominated for six Oscars including best picture and director, and Helen Mirren won best actress for her performance as Queen Elizabeth II.

Check out our TOH! review of “Philomena” from Venice here, and watch the clip below, in which Dench and Coogan get nitpicky about buffet food.
