Watch 'The Marriage Factor' - A Nigerian Woman & Her Marriage-Minded Mother (Short Shouts!)

I really dig this 15-minute short from Nigerian writer/director Chika Anadu, titled The Marriage Factor – a contemporary comedy/drama about a young woman and her marriage-minded mother.

Although, it’s much more than that, combining scripted elements, with documentary footage, and dance sequences to tell a tale that I’m sure many (women, especially, even if you’re not Nigerian) will identify with – the pressure one’s parents, in this case mothers, put on their daughters to find Mr Right, walk down the isle and eventually, give birth to grandchildren.

I like the realness of the scenes, both the scripted and the documentary footage, contrasting the choreographed dance sequences.

Chika Anadu recently completed her feature film debut, B For Baby Boy, which was developed at the Cannes Cinefondation Residence Programme in Paris, and will make its debut at the BFI this year. Look for a post on that project later…

In the meantime, watch The Marriage Factor below. If it doesn’t play for you, click HERE to watch it on Chika’s Vimeo page.
