AFI Film Festival Announces 2013 Lineup

AFI Film Festival Announces 2013 Lineup

The AFI Film Festival, held in Los Angeles, announced its 2013 lineup yesterday. Mother of French New Wave cinema, Agnes Varda, will be this year’s guest artistic director.

While this year boasts some excellent women-centric films and women directed ones, there are no women directed films in either the Gala or Special Screenings sections of the festival. The Gala section does hold the women centric August: Osage County, starring Meryl Streep, and the Kelly Marcel penned, Emma Thompson starring Saving Mr. Banks. Similarly the Special Screenings will include Philomena, starring Judi Dench, The Past for which Bernice Bejo won Best Actress at Cannes and The Invisible Woman, written by Abi Morgan.

In a separate program, two of Varda’s films, Cleo From 5 to 7 and Documenteur, will be playing.

Below are all the women directed films screening at the festival. The AFI Film Festival runs from November 7-14 and is open to the public. For a full listing of films, go here
