'Carrie' Soundtrack Features Passion Pit, Vampire Weekend & More Plus Listen To Marco Beltrami's Theme Plus New Pics

I once showed Brian de Palma‘s “Carrie” to a friend of mine who found it so frightening that by the end she had to leave with her arms draped over two other friends’ shoulders. I felt quite bad, and also quite pleased that a movie could induce that kind of physical reaction in someone. Anyway, the point is that there’s a remake of “Carrie” coming out on October 18th, starring the now well-established but still described as up-and-coming Chloe Grace Moretz. With the release less than a month away, here comes a slew of the usual marketing accoutrements…

New TV spots and new images have arrived including one of director Kimberley Peirce at work. Peirce is one of the more hopeful and interesting things about this version: the presence of a vocally feminist woman with an interest in gender issues in the director’s chair is sure to be interesting given the subject matter (mother-daughter relationships, menstruation, female sexuality…) Also hitting the interwebs is the soundtrack listing which is…somewhat less encouraging? It’s a little hard to imagine “Carrie” being enhanced by indie bands like Vampire Weekend and The Naked And Famous. Then again, we know the movie has a prom scene, and it might be fun to hear some upbeat prom-ready indie-pop being horrendously misused in the name of good ol’ soundtrack dissonance. Here’s hoping.
