Casting Watch: June Squibb of ‘Nebraska’ Set to Play Lena Dunham’s Granny on ‘Girls’

Casting Watch: June Squibb of 'Nebraska' Set to Play Lena Dunham's Granny on 'Girls'

82-year-old June Squibb, who plays the rollicking foul-mouthed wife of Bruce Dern in Alexander Payne’s “Nebraska” (and, like Dern, is earning awards buzz for her performance), will next play Lena Dunham’s grandma on “Girls.”

We haven’t seen much yet from the HBO series’ third season, except an Instagrammed behind-the-scenes peek from the production, set to air in January. If Squibb’s turn in “Nebraska” is any indication, she’ll fit right in to the off-kilter world of Hannah Horvath.

Squibb’s previous credits include Martin Scorsese’s “The Age of Innocence,” Payne’s “About Schmidt” and Todd Haynes’ “Far From Heaven”; her first screen role was in Woody Allen’s “Alice” in 1990.

Check out the trailer for “Nebraska,” which hits theaters November 22, here; our TOH! review here.
