FX Renews 'Wilfred' For a Fourth and Final Season; Show will air on FXX

“Wilfred,” FX’s dark comedy starring Elijah Wood as a depressed man who
starts seeing his neighbor’s dog Wilfred (Jason Gann) as a pot-smoking
man in a dog suit, will be getting a fourth season from the cable network, Variety reports. Its fourth season, which will have 10 episodes, will also be its last. The quirky show will move over to FXX, FX’s spinoff network targeting younger demos.

The series, which is produced by FX Prods., is based on an Australian show of the same name. When it launched in June 2011, it broke the cable networks’ ratings records for most watched comedy premiere (2.6 million viewers). When the third season kicked off, our TV editor Alison Willmore wrote “Wilfred” isn’t the strongest of FX’s comedies, despite a particularly
noteworthy lineup of guest stars that’s included Nestor
Carbonell, Rashida Jones, Jane Kaczmarek and Robin Williams.”

“Wilfred” recently wrapped up its third season with a death and a cliffhanger. No doubt, “Wilfred” fans will be grateful for a final season to wrap up loose ends.
