Hangers-on Unite! The 'Entourage' Movie is a Go

It’s not quite the stuff of legends as the “Arrested Development” movie, but Adrian Grenier and company have been fielding questions about a theoretical “Entourage” feature ever since it was announced the HBO series was coming to an end in 2010.

The idea of a film based on the showbiz industry comedy-drama has slowly got less theoretical and more likely over the intervening years, with it being reported last September that “Entourage” creator Doug Ellin had finished up a screenplay for the project that would pick up six months after the series left off, and Warner Bros. gave it the greenlight several months later.

In June of this year, the “Entourage” movie was one of the 31 projects approved to receive California tax credits, and last week the Hollywood Reporter claimed the film was only being held back by a disagreement over pay, with the other “boys” holding out for deals equal to the one given to Jeremy Piven, who plays agent Ari Gold and perhaps used powers inherited from the character when he managed to negotiate for backend compensation.

But at last, as reported by Deadline last night, the deals have been closed and the movie is happening — and with some of the pay spat playing out over Twitter, it’s fitting that there’s where Ellen announced the news. The film is scheduled to start filming around January.
