Watch: Frank Oz Voicing Yoda & More Rare Footage From 'Return Of The Jedi' LaserDisc

As rumors continue to swirl about a possible “Star Wars: Episode 7” teaser or announcement around the corner, for now, “Star Wars” fans will have savor the taste of nostalgia. The past few weeks have seen the original teaser trailers for “Star Wars,” “The Empire Strikes Back,” and “Return Of The Jedi” all land online, and today is another trip back in time with some behind-the-scenes footage that hasn’t been seen in decades.

But first, a brief bit of history. The EditDroit was an editing system developed by a Lucasfilm spinoff company in the mid-’80s to try and find a bridge between old analog technology and new technical wizardry. It essentially used LaserDisc technology to store clips which could be accessed by a central database (read the linked Wiki page for a clearer picture), but as you might guess, the system was short-lived. But someone has come across a 30 minute LaserDisc featuring nothing but extra scenes, behind-the-scenes footage and more from the “Return Of The Jedi” shoot. And they’re now parceling it out on Facebook.

So, what is up so far? The most significant material is hearing Frank Oz in action, voicing dialogue for a pre-CGI Yoda. We also get a scene with Yoda and Luke Skywalker from some alternate angles, and another sequence of R2D2 patching up the X-Wing. Nerdy? Sure. But if you’ve read this far, you know you’ll be watching below. [Gizmodo]
