Duncan Jones Exits 007 Creator Ian Fleming Biopic & 'Fast & Furious' Director Rob Cohen To Helm 'Road House' Remake

Sometimes, you just can’t do it all. Duncan Jones is finding this out as the director has had to exit the brewing feature film on 007 creator Ian Fleming. First announced back in 2012, not much had been heard about the movie since, which would be based on Andrew Lycett‘s biography “Ian Fleming: The Man Behind James Bond” and focus on the author’s real life spy adventures that later informed his creation of James Bond. So why has he bounced?

For the simple reason that between now and December 18, 2015, the helmer will be focused on “Warcraft,” the big screen adaptation of the video game, that Universal is (currently) still planning to open opposite “Star Wars: Episode VII.” But, if you’re still pining for some Fleming based entertainment, don’t fear. Dominic Cooper has already wrapped the Brit mini-series “Fleming.” Helmed by Mat Whitecross and co-starring Annabelle Wallis, the story will focus on the author’s WWII posting in the British Naval Intelligence. It will air on Sky Atlantic next year.

Meanwhile, MGM shows there’s no title in their catalog that aren’t willing to redo, and after “Red Dawn,” with “RoboCop” and “Poltergeist” coming up, they are now dusting off 1989 with a fresh take on the  Patrick Swayze-starring fave “Road House.” And perhaps showing their intentions, they’ve hired Rob Cohen (“Alex Cross,” “The Fast & The Furious“) to direct this new bouncer action flick, with Michael Stokes (“Iron Eagle IV,” “Exit Speed“) to pen the script. We’ll wait for everyone involved to talk about how much they respect the original and how they updated for modern times or whatever, but until then, here’s the trailer for Swayze flick. [The Wrap]
