Emily Blunt Will Solve 'Sister,' Adam Driver Joins Jeff Nichols' 'Midnight Special' & More

Mysteries and sci-fi and more in this casting round up, so strap in… First up, Emily Blunt has joined the brewing mystery flick “Sister.” Based on the novel by Rosamund Lupton—with the book repped not so coincidentally by Felicity Blunt, Emily’s sister—the story “follows Beatrice (Blunt) as she investigates the death of her younger sister Tess, whose death is ruled a suicide by police. Convinced that her sister was murdered, Beatrice sets out to uncover the strange events leading up to Tess’ death, though she may pay a terrible price for the truth.” This one is still in early stages with a screenwriter waiting to be found, so it’s still a ways off. Still, it’s based on a best-seller so we don’t think this will be idling too long. [The Wrap]

The ever busy Neil LaBute seems to have a new movie brewing called “The Toll.” Penned by Jane Henderson ittells the tale of a New Jersey tollbooth worker who winds up responsible for thwarting a terrorist attack threatening the entire east cost.” And the worker may be none other than Melissa Leo. “That’s really just discussions. It’s a script that I thought was interesting. Melissa Leo, I’ve worked with her on stage. It’s one of those, wouldn’t it be great if we get to make this? It’s at that stage,” director said during press rounds for his latest “Some Velvet Morning.” So in short: we’ll see. [Collider]

Aaron Paul may be feeling the “Need For Speed” next, but after that he’s going to settle down for some “Fathers And Daughters” time. Jesse Pinkman has joined Russell Crowe and Amanda Seyfried in the Gabriele Muccino-directed flick about “a father and daughter living 25 years apart in New York City. Crowe will portray a famous novelist and widower struggling with mental illness as he tries to raise his 5-year-old daughter. Seyfried will portray the now-grown daughter in present-day Manhattan as she battles the aftermath of her troubled childhood.” Paul will play Seyfried’s love interest. [Variety]

Last, rising “Girls” star Adam Driver (“Lincoln,” “Inside Llewyn Davis“) has come aboard “Mud” director Jeff Nichols‘ big studio sci-fi “Midnight Special.” He joins Joel Edgerton, Kirsten Dunst and Michael Shannon in the movie about “a father and son who go on the run after the dad learns his 8 year-old child possesses special powers.” And yes, we’re super stoked for this one.
