Production is now officially underway on “From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series,” a 10-part television adaptation of Robert Rodriguez’s 1996 vampire horror flick. Rodriguez is set to helm the first two installments, in addition to playing the roles of creator and executive producer on the project. The serialized drama will debut on the El Rey Network, Rodriguez’s upcoming genre-busting television network venture that is set to launch this December.
“If the movie’s the short story, the series is the novel,” Rodriguez said. “We have assembled an amazing cast and crew, and viewers can expect to be part of a wild ride when the series premieres on El Rey Network next spring.”
Closely following the plot of the original film, the supernatural-tinged crime thriller will follow bank-robber Seth Gecko and his violent brother Richie who are both wanted by the FBI and local authorities. While en route to Mexico to escape prosecution, they make a pitstop at a strip club populated by vampires. While adhering to the narrative of its origin source, the series will add new characters and backstories, as well as deepen the vampires’ Mesoamerican mythology.
In the realm of casting, D.J. Catrona will be taking on the role of Seth Gecko, the bank-robber turned vampire-killer that was portrayed by George Clooney in the original. Zane Holtz will play his brother Richie, and Don Johnson is set to have a recurring role as Sheriff Earl McGraw, who are hot on the tail of the law-breaking brothers.
