Lynne Ramsay Addresses 'Jane Got a Gun' Lawsuit: Says Allegations Are 'Simply False'

Last week, with the troubled indie “Jane Got a Gun” in the midst of post-production, came news that its original director Lynne Ramsay was being sued by her former producers for the return of an alleged $750,000 in fees following her abrupt departure from the project. Now comes word that Ramsay has not been served with the said lawsuit.

In a statement released on Saturday, the “We Need to Talk About Kevin” director’s team states that the allegations are “simply false.”

It reads: “Lynne Ramsay has not been served with this lawsuit, and when she is, she will respond in court and not in the media… Lynne looks forward to presenting the truth about the situation in the proper forum.”

To recap on the troubles that have plagued the indie Western: The Natalie Portman vehicle was scheduled to begin shooting
earlier this year with Ramsay at the
helm but not a single camera rolled until late spring/early summer when
the project was salvaged by director Gavin O’Connor (“Warrior”), who came on board when Ramsay was a no-show on the first day of filming.
Reportedly unbeknownst to Portman and Jude Law (who was initially
replaced by Bradley Cooper, and ultimately Ewan McGregor), Ramsay had
dropped the project after disputes with one of the films’

The lawsuit, filed last week and first reported by New Mexico’s KRQUE, alleges that Ramsay was “repeatedly under the influence of alcohol, was abusive to members of the cast and crew and was generally disruptive.”

Whatever the case, The Hollywood Reporter reports that sources close to the project have a conflicting view of how things went down, with two sources alleging that Ramsay had not been presented with an approved schedule, script or budget days before principal photography was to commence, and another source saying she failed to deliver a shooting script.

Relativity and The Weinstein Company are distributing the film.
