Romance Classic 'Ghost' Becoming A TV Show, 'Tales From The Darkside' Rebooted

Because a movie and/or TV show in a catalog at a studio is now something to be licensed, rebranded and repackaged and resold, a romantic classic and cult series are getting fresh life on the small screen.

First up, 1990 romance classic “Ghost” starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore is going to become a weekly thing. Paramount is putting a show into development with Akiva Goldsman (“Winter’s Tale,” “I Am Legend“) and Jeff Pinker (“Fringe,” “Lost“) teaming up on a pilot script that will find some way to serialize the story of a ghost who teams with a psychic to connect with his living wife. Maybe it’ll be told through the eyes of the psychic who was an adventure with romantic ghosts each week? Who knows… But maybe pottery will become popular again?

Meanwhile, omnipresent producers Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci are behind a reboot of “Tales From The Darkside,” the ’80s anthology horror series. It could promising, but it’s also set up at CW, so consider yourself warned. Joe Hill (the scribe behind the source material for “Horns,” “Locke & Key” and more) will pen this new take, which will take on the 30-minute format with plans to try and have this up and running by next summer. Again, this has potential but considering CW’s idea of horror is “Vampire Diaries,” well, we’re keeping expectations low. [Deadline]
