Watch: U.S. Trailer For Asghar Farhadi's Powerful 'The Past' Starring Bérénice Bejo & Tahar Rahim

Named this summer as one of our Best Films Of 2013…So Far, a Cannes winner for Best Actress (Berenice Bejo) along with an Ecumenical Jury prize for director Asghar Farhadi, it may have been a quiet for the past few months, but Sony Pictures Classics is finally starting to run with “The Past.” And this first trailer gives you all you need to know as you add it your must-see list before the end of the year.

The film, which co-stars Ali Mosaffa and Tahar Rahim, tells the tangled drama that centers around the mother of two children, who is looking to finalize her divorce before moving on with the man in her life. But when her ex-husband returns from Iran to complete the process and finds her already getting domestic with someone else, he suddenly is forced to confront what his divorce really means. Now toss in children from both relationships and you have a powder keg of emotion ready to go off and that’s just what happens. And it’s one of the better films you’ll see this year as a result, one that we said in Cannes is “mature and real in a way that dramas rarely aspire too.”

And while Bejo rightfully deserves the praise she’ll be getting for her performance, keep an eye out for Pauline Burlet as her daughter—she’s a standout. “The Past” opens in the future on December 20th.
