Watch: U.S. Trailer For Hayao Miyazaki's Celebrated Final Film 'The Wind Rises'

Considered a strong contender not only for a nomination but also a possible win — particularly considering it’s Hayao Miyazaki‘s final directorial effort — “The Wind Rises” may have a more difficult hill to climb than easier to swallow fare like Disney‘s upcoming “Frozen.” But considering the animated studio has the best of both worlds by distributing the two movies, they should be happy no matter what happens as both are seen as shoo-ins for nods.

Anyway, after subtitled international versions hit this summer, the first U.S. trailer for Miyazaki’s movie is here and to ensure that you forgot this movie is in Japanese and/or will be dubbed for North American audiences, it has zero dialogue to explain what’s happening. So, we’ll tell you. The movie is based on the novel by Tatsuo Hori and the manga by Miyazaki, and is inspired by the life of Jiro Horikoshi, the man who designed the Zero fighter plane that was used during World War II, most infamously during the attack on Pearl Harbor. It’s this latter point that has caused some minor “controversy” around the movie but our review from Venice notes the final result is “fascinating and beguiling.”

With its Oscar qualifying run now complete, “The Wind Rises” will arrive on February 21st. Watch below. [Deadline]
