So let’s say you’re respected documentary programmer Thom Powers, and you’re miffed that the New York Times’ A.O. Scott made a Top 10 — really Top 16 — list of feature films and only a Top 5 devoted to documentaries. Perhaps you’d get on Twitter and lodge a public complaint, something like this:

Now let’s say you’re A.O. Scott — nice, isn’t it? — and you see Powers’ tweet. You might take it in stride, or shoot back a diplomatic response about there being only so much room in the newspaper. Or, if it’s after 9 p.m. on the East Coast and you’re feeling a bit puckish, you might respond thusly:
