Watch: Fan Made Director's Cut Of 'The Dark Crystal' Featuring Rare Footage & Original Dialogue

Taking an idea from the imagination, putting it down on paper, sharing it with others, getting money to realize it and then making a movie is a long, long journey and inevitably, compromises will be made. And that’s generally what happened with Jim Henson‘s cult fave “The Dark Crystal.” Originally conceived as something a bit more intense than what eventually landed in theaters, a fan has taken it upon himself to try and create something closer to Henson’s vision, fashioning their own “director’s cut.” And a helluva lot of work went into it.

Utilizing a very rough workprint that has been circulating the interwebs for a while, scoodidabop has matched the (now cleaned up) audio from that cut with already existing footage, added deleted and long unavailable scenes and has put together something a bit different than what you might remember as a kid. “In this version there’s no narrator, Jen’s inner monologues are gone, and the Skeksis hardly ever say anything in English (Aughra speaks some Skesis too!). This version is much more modern and a little darker with this original audio and the slightly different score. Some of the scenes are moved around too, which adds to the surreal feel of the original film,” scoodidabop writes.
