You know those annoying pre-taped campaign calls that you get ahead of a political election? Well, some 6000 active voting members of the Academy are picking up roto-calls from new Academy president Cheryl Boone-Isaacs. She’s asking them to please submit their ballots before the looming deadline.
That’s because they’re due on Wednesday, January 8: the voting closes at 5 p.m. PT. As usual, the online and paper ballots will be tabulated and verified by the international accounting firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers. (Our detailed ten-step explanation of how the voting works this year is here.)
We have to wait until January 16 to find out the final nominations for the 86th Oscars, which will be announced at 5:30 AM at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater. (Many of us will be heading for Park City to cover the Sundance Film Festival later that same day.)
And the Academy Awards show hosted by Ellen DeGeneres and produced by music mavens Craig Zadan and Neil Meron goes live on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland. We’ll be there.
