Netflix Renews Steven Van Zandt's Norwegian Gangster Series 'Lilyhammer' for a Third Season

Netflix is going in for another round of “Lilyhammer,” its American/Norwegian coproduction starring Steven Van Zandt (“The Sopranos”) as former gangster Frank “The Fixer” Tagliano, who goes into witness protection in Norway and starts a new life as Johnny Henriksen, a successful nightclub owner and father of two.

The series’ eight-episode second season debuted in full on the streaming site on December 13 after airing on Norwegian television and has apparently performed well enough for Netflix to give it a renewal. The third season will premiere this year.

“We are proud to bring back ‘Lilyhammer’ for a third season,” said Netflix’s Ted Sarandos. “‘Lilyhammer’ is the type of global show that Netflix members around the world have discovered and love and season three will see that world expand even more.”

“Lilyhammer” was developed by Rubicon TV AS and creators Anne Bjørnstad and Eilif Skodvin, with Lasse Hallberg and Steven Van Zandt as executive producers. The series was actually Netflix’s inaugural original, the first season premiering in February 2012, nearly a year before “House of Cards” debuted on the service.
