Project of the Day: 'Tears of God'

Here’s your daily dose of an indie film in progress; at the end of the week, you’ll have the chance to vote for your favorite.

In the meantime: Is this a movie you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.

“Tears of God”

Tweetable Logline:
TEARS OF GOD is an atmospheric feature-length fable about possession, death, and mourning in a rural community.

Elevator Pitch:
TEARS OF GOD is the first feature film by writer/director Robert Hillyer Barnett, co-written by Diamando Proimos.

After her father’s death, a young woman, Ida, confronts the source of the demonic scourge plaguing those around her. Longing for reunion with the dead and seduced by the chaotic allure of possession, Ida struggles to find meaning in a barren, apocalyptic landscape, while those around her succumb to despair and madness.

To be filmed in Asheville, N.C., Tears of God tells a story about people who exist in a world barely understood, and the throes of drama, control, and cathartic belief within.

Production Team:

Starring: Kate Lyn Sheil, Barlow Jacobs, Samuel Herring (of the band FUTURE ISLANDS), Frank Mosley, Audrey Speicher, Michael Crabtree, Kira Pearson, Amara Gyulai

Directed by: Robert Hillyer Barnett
Written by: Robert Hillyer Barnett, Diamando Proimos

Produced by: Robert, Diamando, Frank Mosley

About the Production:
Tears of God is a gaze into the fascination of submission to belief. Inspired by the experiences of the mid 20’s, when death becomes tangible as your body begins to degrade and you begin to cling to things that keep you alive (job, religion, marriage, etc.) The look of the film is heavily inspired by European horror films. The freeing destabilization of Zulawski, the discontinuity and emotional overload lighting of Argento, the perverted design of Rollin, and the wild performances of Herzog were all influences we wanted to bring back to life with this film.

Current Status: Pre-Production with some scenes shot
