Trivia is defined as information of little or no value… until now.
This week marks the beta launch of Black Movie Trivia, an online trivia game where the winning players are rewarded with cash prizes of up to $10,000. Beginning this week and continuing weekly until January 2015, at least 1 game will be offered at http://www.blackmovietrivia.com (for a total of 50 games). The date, time and cash prize for each game will be announced here on Shadow and Act and on the game site. Weekly winners will be announced here as well.
The first game is this Friday, January 24, 2014 at 8pm EST. The cash prize for winning the first game is $500.
Here’s the rub: only players that contribute $25 to the game sponsor will be eligible to win cash prizes. That makes the game site a new kind of reward-based crowdfunding platform. The net proceeds earned from the games will be used to support funding initiatives, including the Shadow and Act Filmmaker Challenge, a new “top-up” fund that helps filmmakers meet their Kickstarter goals and a new post-production fund that will provide completion money for eligible film projects. Stay tuned for more information on these initiatives.
While one-time players compete for several hundred dollars in cash prizes, repeat players can accumulate reward points that will make them eligible to compete for cash prizes of $1,000, $5,000 and $10,000. The game sponsor will award cash prizes of over $50,000 during the course of the year. Watch 2 short videos on how to play at http://blackmovietrivia.com/index/how-to-play and read the Official Rules at http://blackmovietrivia.com/index/rules for more information.
Of course you don’t have to pay anything to play. You can play free just for the fun of it. Free players, however, are not eligible to win cash prizes. Also, residents of Maryland, Colorado and North Dakota are restricted from playing for cash prizes due to the laws in those states.
Black Movie Trivia is ultimately a game of skill. People who have a vast knowledge of Black Cinema are likely to do very well playing it. Readers of this blog tend to have that level of knowledge. So if you’re up to the challenge, sign up now for Friday’s game.
