Trailer of the Week: Romance, Melancholy and Food in Indian Rom-Com 'The Lunchbox'

Before the Trailer, We Thought: Romantic comedies are on the decline, but Ritesh Batra’s feature debut seems to hold a certain charm. It was anticipated to be submit for a nomination in the Foreign Language Category, but India chose a little-known film, “The Good Road,” for submission instead. But the love story set in motion by misdelivered lunch seems to have had the popular vote; we’re still anticipating this alternate contender.

And Now? We’re definitely still hungry. Irrfan Khan is recognizable from his roles in “Life of Pi” and “The Amazing Spider Man,” so it just kind of feels right to see him in one of the two lead roles. The other star is the brightly gorgeous Nimrat Kaur, an Indian film and stage actress. After her home-cooked lunch is delivered to a lonely office worker instead of her husband, she continues to send the stranger lunch, and the being exchanging notes via the lunchbox. It’s a little on the sweet side, but there’s a lot more flavor to it as well.

“The Lunchbox” will be in theaters February 28th.
