Watch: David Lynch's Home Pregnancy Test Commercial & PSA About New York City's Rat Infestation

Sure, he’s best known for his catalog of distinct, surreal and terrifying pictures, but David Lynch is a man of many artistic hats. He’s a painter, musician, weatherman, coffee enthusiast, transcendental meditation advocate, nightclub entrepreneur and more. But sometimes you need a bit of pocket cash as you jump from endeavor to endeavor, and like so many before (and after) him, Lynch has sometimes found his working on commercials.

A couple of Lynch’s more intriguing sideline ventures have come to light over the last few days. First, Open Culture pointed us in the direction of the brief 1997 ad for a home pregnancy test (yes, really) that manages to be informative and yet still kinda creepy. And fitting with that spirit, a few years before, in 1991, Lynch got behind the camera for a PSA about New York City’s rat problem, with Frederick Elmes (“Wild at Heart) lensing the spot that will definitely get under your skin. Thanks to Dangerous Minds for that one.

Check ’em out below, and in some related news, Ray Wise confirms with AICN that the rumored, extensive deleted “Twin Peaks” scenes will indeed be included in for the forthcoming box set. “…it’s going to happen. I don’t know what happened to be able to do it, I suppose it has something to do with the French producers. But, it’s happening,” he said. “I guess the first cut of David’s film, ‘Fire Walk With Me,’ was probably around three-and-a-half hours long, maybe approaching four, we’ll probably see a lot of that material on the new set.”

But you won’t see these ads, so check ’em out below.
