Certainly, replicating the look of ’70s New York City is easy enough—just make everything bigger. The hair, the jeans, the attitude… if you wear it all with confidence and a bit of flamboyance, you can pull it off. And while “Blood Ties” has the look of a Sidney Lumet or William Friedkin movie of the period, it doesn’t quite capture the essence of those films. But there are plenty of reasons why you should check out it.

And those reasons? How about this: Clive Owen, Billy Crudup, Marion Cotillard, Mila Kunis, Zoe Saldana, Matthias Schoenaerts and James Caan. That’s the ensemble holding down Guillaume Canet‘s crime drama, about two brothers on either side of the law, who collide personally and professionally. When we saw it last year at Cannes, we didn’t quite dig the cut that ran over 2 hours and 30 minutes long. But as we suggested in our review, “There is a different and possibly shorter edit of this movie that is probably much better.” And indeed, the U.S. cut runs 2 hours and 8 minutes.

See how it all works when “Blood Ties” opens on March 21st. Watch below.
