FIRST LOOK: Jason Clarke Faces the Elements in 'Everest'

A first-look image has arrived from Universal’s “Everest,” starring Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes and Jake Gyllenhaal as climbers in two different expeditions faced with one of the fiercest snowstorms ever recorded on the daunting mountain face.

The film, which just started principal photography on location in Nepal, is directed by Baltasar Kormakur (helmer of Iceland’s 2013 Oscar entry “The Deep,” “Two Guns,” “Contraband”), and adapted for the screen by Mark Medoff and “Slumdog Millionaire” Oscar winning scribe Simon Beaufoy. It also stars Martin Henderson, Emily Watson, Michael Kelly and Thomas M. Wright. Here’s the official synopsis:

Inspired by the incredible events surrounding a treacherous
attempt to reach the summit of the world’s highest mountain, EVEREST documents
the awe-inspiring journey of two different expeditions challenged beyond their
limits by one of the fiercest snowstorms ever encountered by mankind.  Their mettle tested by the harshest of
elements found on the planet, the climbers will face nearly impossible
obstacles as a lifelong obsession becomes a breathtaking struggle for survival.

“Everest” hits theaters stateside on February 27, 2015, in 3D and IMAX 3D.
