UPDATE: “House of Cards” seems to have had a rise to power that even Frank Underwood would envy. The second season of the hot Netflix original series hooked 2% of Netflix subscribers into binge-watching the entire series during its February 14 opening weekend. Per Variety, this could be as many as 634,000 viewers.
EARLIER: In the first episode of the second season of “House of Cards,” Kevin Spacey drawls to the camera, “Did you think I forgot about you?” Well, viewers certainly didn’t forget about Netflix’s “House of Cards” this past weekend, as the series nabbed big numbers for its Friday premiere.
Per Variety, 15% of Netflix subscribers tuned in for the first episode on February 14. This is a huge jump from last year’s debut of the series, which scored only 2% of Netflix subscribers, tuning in for the premiere episode over the course of the show’s entire opening weekend.
Because Netflix won’t post numbers or ratings for its original series, Variety is getting their data from broadband technology firm Procera Networks. (Variety admits that the Procera system isn’t an exact science; they elaborate on how the company gets its numbers here.)
