Pink Will Make Special Appearance on the Oscars UPDATED

UPDATE: Oscar producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron have announced that Pink will make a “special appearance” at this year’s Academy Awards. A performance? Given the showrunners’ musical leanings, it seems more than likely.

They said of the Grammy winner, who will be on the Oscar stage for the first time:

“She is regarded as one of the greatest voices in pop
music and one of the best performers of her generation, and we are thrilled to
have her join us for a highly anticipated moment on the broadcast.”

We’ll see what they have brewing come March 2.

EARLIER: Two-time Oscar nominee Bette Midler is set to perform for the first time at the 2014 Oscars. Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron have worked with Midler on “Gypsy” — again they’re leaning on their musical roots to tap performances for the awards show.

In that vein, Zadan and Meron stated:

“We are thrilled to have Bette perform on the Oscars for the
very first time. We believe she will make our Oscar telecast an especially
moving evening.”

Midler received Oscar nominations for “For the Boys” and “The Rose.”

Meanwhile, host Ellen DeGeneres will have some song-and-dance numbers up her sleeve. We got a little taste of that with the Academy Awards teaser released in December. And current Best Song Oscar nominees Karen O, U2, Idina Menzel and Pharrell Williams are set to perform, too. The Oscars are on March 2.
