Watch: 2-Hour Talk With 'Wet Hot American Summer' & 'The State' Writer/Actor Michael Showalter

Michael Showalter has done a little bit of everything in the world of comedy, film, and television. He’s perhaps best known for being a member of sketch comedy groups such as “The State” and “Stella” and for writing “Wet Hot American Summer” with David Wain. Wain and Showalter have recently collaborated on another film, “They Came Together,” which premiered at Sundance last month (our review) and, hopefully, it will come out in theaters later this year. One thing you may not know is that Showalter has also been working on the ABC show “Super Fun Night,” which is in the middle of its first season.

Naturally, considering that he’s worked in comedy for over twenty years, we can safely assume that there’s an endless amount of subjects for Michael Showalter to talk about. And with his recent appearance on “The Kevin Pollak Chat Show” earlier this week, you can see that first hand. The comedian wound up chatting with Kevin Pollak for almost two hours.

In the two-hour talk, the topics ranged from how he got his start as an intern on The Ha! Channel (now known as Comedy Central) to his most recent work on “Super Fun Night.” In between, we learn about Michael Showalter’s love for cats, how he taught screenwriting courses at NYU for six years, and why he finally decided to move to Los Angeles after living in New York City. We also learn about his affinity for Tom Hanks movies in the ‘80s and at one point he wows Kevin Pollak with an “amazing” magic track. To describe the trick would be to spoil the entire interview so why don’t you just watch for yourself?

It’s a loose, laid-back interview and there are times when the conversation seems to not be going anywhere, but it’s still great to watch “The State” alum reminisce about his career. You can check out the interview below.
