WATCH: Brand New Trailer for 'Divergent,' Starring Shailene Woodley

A brand new trailer has arrived for the YA adaptation “Divergent” (March 21, 2014) starring Shailene Woodley, Kate Winslet, Miles Teller, Theo James and Ashley Judd, among many others, from the first novel of Veronica Roth’s bestselling trilogy. Watch below.

Could this be the next YA franchise craze? “Twilight” has ended, and “Hunger Games” is spawning more would-be young adult novel-turned-movie-franchises. This series is more romantic, like “Twilight,” and less brainy than “Hunger Games.”  The next two “Divergent” films are already in the works. But the fact that director Neil Burger will not return to direct the sequels “Insurgent” (March 20, 2015), which Brian Duffield is writing, and “Allegiant” (March 18, 2016) is a bad sign. It suggests that Lionsgate/Summit think they can do better. The final novel “Allegiant” hit bookstores October 22.

TOH! scoped out early footage of “Divergent” at last summer’s Comic-Con. For those of you unfamiliar with the books, as a rite of passage to adulthood in this future North American dystopia you have a choice to make: stay in the faction you were raised in and continue see your family and friends, or choose a new one, for which you will have to pass an aptitude test to prove that you qualify. Once you’re in you are committed for life; there’s no going back. Our heroine (played by Woodley) decides to leave her Selfless faction to become part of Dauntless, where she falls for her demanding instructor Four (Theo James). Together they find out that their world is not all that it seems.

Check out character posters here. TOH! interviewed costar Miles Teller (set to star in all three films) at Sundance (that exclusive video interview is here.) Woodley and James recently took the film on Jimmy Kimmel.
