Watch: John Hurt "Not In Agreement" With 'Snowpiercer' Cuts, Says Harvey Weinstein Doesn't Trust His Directors

With Bong Joon-ho‘s “Snowpiercer” set to screen at the Berlin International Film Festival shortly, we’re likely to continue to hear more concern from the director and cast over their concerns about Harvey Weinstein‘s desire to edit the film, rather dramatically. Screenwriter Kelly Masterson, and stars Chris Evans and Tilda Swinton have already raised their voices in support of the uncut movie, and now you can add one more to the chorus.

John Hurt chatted briefly with HeyUGuys at the Critics’ Circle Awards in London, and made his position quite clear when it comes to the post-apocalyptic movie. “It’s a wonderful film, I’ve seen it. And I want it to be shown in the English speaking territories in its full version. And I’m not in agreement with Harvey Weinstein who wants to cut twenty minutes out of it, because I know what he’ll cut out,” he said.

Hurt continued, adding that while Harvey Weinstein often champions unlikely and adventurous projects, his desire to re-edit movies is “endemic,” and that at the end of the day, “he doesn’t trust his directors.” And while the actor cannot support The Weinstein Company’s battle to cut down the movie, he is making clear his belief in “Snowpiercer” in other ways.

“What I can do is support the Korean [production] company, and Bong Joon-ho, who is a consummate director. It’s a wonderful film, and I would had to see it tinkered with,” he said.

And while the last we heard from Bong Joon-ho is that the director’s cut may ultimately see stateside release, nothing is confirmed. But if you’re done with waiting, the English translation of the graphic novel it’s based on is now in stores and you can read our review right here.
