AMC Sets a Premiere Date for '80s Tech Drama 'Halt and Catch Fire'

Halt and Catch Fire,” AMC’s drama series set in the 1980s tech world, will premiere on Sunday, June 1st at 10pm. That’s over two and a half months after the series has its world premiere at SXSW this Saturday, March 8th, making the festival screening a sign of confidence from the network — that’s a lot of time for word of mouth to spread.

AMC screened an early trailer for the series, which is created by Chris Cantwell and Chris Rogers, at the TCA Press Tour in January, and it did look promising, like a period “Social Network,” though the video hasn’t been released online yet. The series stars Lee Pace (“Pushing Daisies”), Scoot McNairy (“Argo”), Mackenzie Davis (“Smashed”), Kerry Bishé (“Red State”) and Toby Huss (“Cowboys & Aliens”) and is about a trio taking huge risks in the race to build a personal computer that will change the world.

Jonathan Lisco (“Southland”) serves as showrunner of the 10-episode first season, which is set in Texas’ Silicon Prairie one year after the release of the IBM PC. Joe McMillan (Pace), a former IBM exec, hopes to reverse engineer his former employer’s major project via his current company, Cardiff Electric. He enlists once great engineer Gordon Clark (McNairy), whose wife Donna (Bishé) is initially unsupportive, and Cameron Howe (Davis), a volatile prodigy.
