As if Andrew Garfield‘s lithe beauty wasn’t enough to completely destroy you. “The Amazing Spider-Man” star swept in and saved the day after his shared sketch with the Batkid was slashed from the Oscar telecast. “Batkid” is the self-made pseudonym of Miles Scott, a five-year-old cancer survivor/kindergartner/cutie-pie who was the face of a major Make-A-Wish project last year.
Here’s the Academy’s terse statement, which went out today: “Due to the nature of a live show, hard decisions sometimes must be made which require the Academy to cut segments due to the logistics of production. Andrew Garfield understood that his segment had to be omitted, and he drove to Disneyland on Monday to spend time with 5-year-old Miles Scott (Batkid) and his family.”
That’s right, the dreamy svelte babe took the kid to Disneyland to make up for all the cancellation nonsense. Be mine?
Variety reports that some backstage kerfuffle may have been afoot, causing the Academy to cut the segment from the March 2 telecast, which was themed around the concept of “heroes.” Instead of two cuties onstage, all we got was Bette Midler all washed-up and crooning the trite song no one cares about anymore, from a movie that ought to be erased from the cultural memory.
“The Amazing Spider-Man 2” arrives May 2.
