Factory 25 announced that it has acquired the world rights to Hanly Banks’s concert film “Apocalypse: A Bill Callahan Tour Film.” The film centers on Drag City singer-songwriter Bill Callahan during a two-week tour from New York to California.
Callahan has been a pivotal figure in the lo-fi movement over the past twenty years, both under his own name and the moniker Smog. The film takes an impressionistic look at his life on the road during his 2011 tour for his third album under his own name, “Apocalypse,” which was selected by Pitchfork, Uncut, and Mojo as one of the best albums of 2011. The film played in 2012 at the Film Society of Lincoln Center as a part of their “Sound & Vision” series.
“Apocalypse: A Bill Callahan Tour Film” will see release at Brooklyn’s reRun Theater on May 2, followed by screenings across the country in the spring. The film will hit VOD and iTunes on April 15.
