Bryan Singer To Direct Pilot Of Vince Gilligan’s CBS Series ‘Battle Creek’

Bryan Singer To Direct Pilot Of Vince Gilligan's CBS Series 'Battle Creek'

While all the attention right now is on Vince Gilligan‘s brewing “Breaking Bad” spinoff for AMC, “Better Call Saul,” you might have forgotten he’s got another project cooking over at CBS. And it just gained some major talent.

THR reports that Bryan Singer has signed up to direct the pilot episode of “Battle Creek,” the new show from Gilligan and former “House” honcho David Shore. Singer was a longtime producer on the medical drama, and also directed two episodes in the first season — the pilot and “Occam’s Razor.” So he’s back with familiar creative talent for this one. The show will star Dean Winters, Kal Penn and Janet McTeer, and will tell the story of an FBI agent and detective tasked with cleaning up the titular Michigan city, but with very little resources at their disposal.

No word yet on when production will begin, but a thirteen episode order is already up for the first season, so we presume once Singer is done with his “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” duties, he’ll be right on this.

As for “Better Call Saul,” Aaron Paul has stoked fan excitement tell Associated Press he’s had “serious talks” with Gilligan about reprising his role as Jesse Pinkman, though it’s not quite clear in what capacity. “Anything Vince is involved with, I’m there,” Paul added. “I owe him my entire career. And the idea of jumping into the skin of Jesse Pinkman again in his lighter days — because it’s all a prequel — it would be fun.”

But just don’t ask Dean Norris if he’ll come back to play Hank, because he’s putting the role behind him. “I think that experience was that experience. I’m not a big fan of kind of revisiting something that has already been done. But I think it’s going to be awesome. So I can’t wait to see it,” he said.

So lots on the horizon for Gilligan. Which of these shows do you think has the most promise?
