Bennett Miller’s “Foxcatcher,” which at one point was set to premiere at last year’s AFI FEST and be part of the Oscar season, will actually have its world premiere at the upcoming Cannes, reports Guy Lodge over at In Contention.
The film, starring Channing Tatum and Steve Carell (in a rather unsettling disguise), follows Olympic wrestler Mark Schultz (Tatum), and the murder of his brother (Mark Ruffalo) by paranoid schizophrenic gym owner Jim Du Pont (Carell).
“Foxcatcher” isn’t the only title that was suspected to land in last year’s Oscar season, but has now shifted its focus to Cannes (and, in turn, the Oscar season later this year): the Weinsteins’ “Grace of Monaco” is opening the fest, with Nicole Kidman toplining.
Vanessa Redgrave, Sienna Miller and Anthony Michael Hall round out the supporting cast for “Foxcatcher.” Miller has previously directed “Moneyball” and “Capote,” both of which nabbed Oscar noms (not to mention a win for the late Philip Seymour Hoffman).
