‘Game of Thrones’ Creator George R.R. Martin Wants Series to End with a Film

'Game of Thrones' Creator George R.R. Martin Wants Series to End with a Film

With the “Game of Thrones” books and TV series amongst the most popular and profitable sources of entertainment out there, it shouldn’t be a surprise that George R.R. Martin, the writer behind the series of novels, is considering ending it all with a movie.

In an exclusive interview with the The Hollywood Reporter following last night’s fourth season premiere of “Game of Thrones” in New York, Martin discussed the possibility of having a film, especially considering the growing lengths of his novels and and the eventual but still unknown ending for the HBO series adapted from them.

“Do we run for seven years? Do we run for eight? Do we run for 10? The books get bigger and bigger [in scope]. It might need a feature to tie things up, something with a feature budget, like $100 million for two hours. Those dragons get real big, you know,” Martin said.

Martin also called to attention the possibility of a film adaptation of his three penned prequel novels, known as the “Tale of Dunk and Egg,” that take place in Westeros 90 years before the events of “Game of Thrones.”

The fourth season of “Game of Thrones” will premiere on April 6 on HBO.
