Jonathan Glazer’s “Under The Skin” is unlike any film you’ve ever seen and, fitfully, its score by Mica Levi of indie band Micachu & The Shapes sounds like nothing you’ve ever heard, either. You can stream the whole album now via Pitchfork.
Glazer’s film about an alien sent to Earth to inhabit the pin-up girl body of Scarlett Johansson is a disorienting, terrifyingly nebulous thing of beauty. And, like the experience of being picked up by an alien Scarlett Johansson in a white van and then left to incinerate in an inky pool of blackness, it’s a beguiling and beautiful nightmare.
In her off-kilter, prickling, unnerving score, young English composer Levi evokes this atmosphere completely. Head to Pitchfork and listen for yourself.
