Project of the Day: ‘Pink Moon’

Project of the Day: 'Pink Moon'

Here’s your daily dose of an indie film in progress; at the end of the week, you’ll have the chance to vote for your favorite.

In the meantime: Is this a movie you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.

Pink Moon

Tweetable
Logline:
Two teens are forced to hide an unintended pregnancy in a society where heterosexuals are persecuted and abortion is forbidden.

Elevator Pitch: “Pink Moon” is a companion piece/precursor to a feature-length screenplay, which was a finalist in the CineStory and Final Draft screenwriting competitions in 2013. The film imagines what reproductive rights would look like in a world where gays are the majority, and while the concept of a homonormative world has been explored in fiction for over 50 years, it’s an allegory that’s more relevant today than ever before.

Production Team:

Writer-director: Sal Bardo
His films have screened at nearly 50 film festivals in 10 countries. In 2011, he won the Audience Award for Best First Time Filmmaker at Reel Affirmations: Washington D.C.’s International LGBT Film Festival for his short film “Requited,” which made its world premiere at the Seattle International Film Festival. Other credits include “Sam” and “Chaser,” both of which screened around the world and were recently premiered online.
Associate Producer & Co-star: Brandon Tyler Harris
Brandon’s past credits include “The Big C,” “Smash,” and “Law & Order: SVU.”

About
the Production:
I spent a year and a half developing “Pink Moon,” and the more I delved into this world, the more fascinated I became with what the effect would be on reproductive rights. It wasn’t until I finished writing the feature-length version of the script that I realized how fundamentally tied women’s rights are to LGBT rights, from personal freedom to the oppression and violence that’s resulted in the fight to protect those rights. It’s important for people, especially those who have grown up post-Roe v Wade, to understand what things could be like if abortion isn’t safe and accessible.
