Project of the Day: ‘The Last Roadhouse’

Project of the Day: 'The Last Roadhouse'

Here’s your daily dose of an indie film in progress; at the end of the week, you’ll have the chance to vote for your favorite.

In the meantime: Is this a movie you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.

“The Last Roadhouse”

Tweetable Logline: Off-grid, generator-powered, historic Middlegate NV is threatened by rising diesel costs—an omen of our fuel-dependent future.

Elevator Pitch: Middlegate Station, Nevada is a Pony Express roadhouse that provides essential gas, food, and lodging for ranchers, military, and travelers along the “Loneliest Road in America.” Far off the power grid and powered 24/7 by a diesel generator, Middlegate’s future is in doubt after years of rising fuel costs—a threatened cultural loss.

Finding renewable sources of energy, curbing pollution caused by fuel emissions, and reducing our dependency on oil are seminal challenges of our time. Using Middlegate as a vehicle, this doc asks questions we all will have to answer about clean energy implementation in the 21st century.

Production Team:

Executive Producer: Lisette Cheresson
Directors: Ryan and Lisette Cheresson
Director of Photography: Ryan Cheresson
Producer / Assistant Camera: Megan Robertson
Editor: Lisette Cheresson

About the Production: Clean energy implementation isn’t only a story near and dear to our environmentalist hearts—it’s the defining challenge of our time. We’re exploring this story through Middlegate because we believe places like historic Middlegate define America, and that every time a place like it disappears we lose an integral part of our national identity. We think it’s time that America puts its money where its mouth is: politicians are always ready to discuss rural revitalization and clean energy as a means to it, but funding for off-grid families who need it most is almost non-existent. Let’s change that.

Current Status: In production! We just returned from a three-week shoot in NV, and are planning to return in June and August.
